SYNOPSIS:
Lauren Wilson is well on her way to her happily-ever-after. She has a career she loves, a husband she adores and a baby on the way, but a devastating diagnosis changes everything. The life she's built suddenly crumbles around her when her husband insists she choose—the baby or him. Returning to her small hometown to rebuild her shattered life, Lauren crosses paths with Ethan Campbell, the man who stole her teenage heart. The old attraction is still there, but Lauren won't admit it to anyone—least of all herself. Her only priority is providing a life for her child, and she can't afford to get it wrong. Ethan is confusing everything, including stirring up feelings she’s not prepared to face. Will she spend her life raising her baby alone or is the family she's always wanted finally within her reach?
MY THOUGHTS:
3 out of 5 stars
This is another book that I read during the five days without power. For that alone, I am thankful to Ms. Talley for her writing.
This book was a bit different from my normal swoony and flirty read, though it was definitely heavy on the emotions. And when I say heavy on the emotions, I am not exaggerating. It runs the entire spectrum...elation, disappointment, joy, fear, sadness, anger, devotion, betrayal, and love, love, and more love.
When her seemingly perfect life gets yanked out from under her feet, Lauren Wilson does what every good woman does -- sets her shoulders and decides that she is going to make it. And for that, I am a fan of this story. I can not stand a wimpy female main character. Nope. And Lauren makes me proud.
Faced with a future not at all what she had envisioned, she finds herself having to start over from scratch. Sort of. She may not have a job or her husband, but she has her family...and a friend from the past. And as the story progresses, she learns that maybe what she thought was imperfect was maybe her version of perfect after all.
I will say that I found the beginning of this book a bit...haphazard...at times. There were parts that could have been condensed and there were parts that could maybe make the reader feel a bit uncomfortable...yet as I think back, those moments begin to make a bit more sense. People and inner voices can be terribly judgey and maybe the discomfort I felt helped put me in Lauren's shoes. I can't exactly pinpoint it, but I do know that some of the unease I felt in the beginning now seems to make a bit more sense. Of course, now I'm probably making zero sense so take that as you will.
So, wrapping up one of the most random reviews ever posted on this blog, I will say that I enjoyed reading Imperfect Love and that it is a story that has been on my mind since I finished it. And I won't ever complain about that.
