Declaration by Rachael Wade - Book Tour

Preservation Series by Rachael Wade
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Synopsis book 1: Preservation
Fear is sabotage’s sweetest weapon.

Kate has no time for meaningless romantic charades, and definitely no time for hot college professors who are full of themselves and smitten with her. Constantly battling eviction notices, tuition she can’t afford, and a sick, dependent mother, the last thing she needs is to be distracted with someone else’s complicated baggage.

When she stumbles into Ryan Campbell’s creative writing class, he is only “Mr. Campbell” to her, until Ryan finds himself captivated by her writing and she is forced to face their mutual attraction. His cocky know-it-all syndrome is enough to send her running in the other direction, and his posse of female admirers and playboy reputation are enough to squander any odds in her favor.

But underneath Ryan’s abrasive facade is something to behold, and she can’t stay away for long. Ryan and Kate must decide who they’re willing to become and fight against their former selves if they want to make things work. That’s if academia, vicious vixens, old skeletons, and their own mastery at self-destruction don’t pummel their efforts first.

Synopsis book 2: Reservation
A sequel to the Amazon bestselling romance, Preservation, told from Ryan’s point of view.

Old Habits Die Hard.

Ryan Campbell is not only leaving his title of Professor behind to move on to bigger and better things at Simon and Warden Publishing, he’s also become Seattle’s rising literary star. Sitting on the overwhelming cusp of newfound fame, he learns soon enough that being popular has its downside.

Attracted to the buzz surrounding his new career, former lovers begin to creep back into his life, and potential ones emerge with enticing advances. While he works to juggle reserved, yet stressful, wedding plans with Kate and his new public image, he has enough to manage without worrying about Carter and Dean—Kate’s loveable albeit eccentric friends—and their latest shenanigans.

Surrounded by a lifestyle that includes temptation at every turn, Ryan finds himself immersed in a world full of scandal and lies, where his oldest weaknesses thrive and his ghosts return to haunt him. Questioning whether his life with Kate is his best path, he must discover if he’s still capable of being the man he aspired to be when she first became his, or if happily ever after is only an illusion.

Synopsis book 3: Declaration
Featuring characters from Love and Relativity.

Carter Montgomery spent most of his life blending in, and he liked it that way. It was always better to be seen, not heard. And while a theatric streak and friendly demeanor might have fooled most people, he knew the truth—he was the shy one. The quiet kid most people forgot about. Some might have considered that a bad thing, but those people all wanted to be in the spotlight.

The only place Carter didn’t mind attention was on stage, with The Hellions. Once content in his comfort zone in Seattle, Washington, he only knew three things: confrontation was to be avoided, keeping the peace was priority, and the moment he lost Kate Parker to Professor Ryan Campbell, he had no clue what to do with his life. Playing gigs, working at Pike Place Market, and watching BBC after the love of his life sailed off into the sunset just wasn’t going to cut it anymore.

Desperate to escape his rut, he takes a cue from Kate and chooses a random place to relocate—a small island across the country, where no one knows his name and memories of unrequited love aren’t found at every turn. Just when he thinks he’s found the perfect place to unwind and sink back into the shadows, in bursts Whitney Sinclair, a saucy firecracker who loves life and refuses to settle for second best. Full of contagious energy, she dares him to be brave, convincing him that it might finally be time to tell the world what he wants.

It might be time to make a declaration.

EXCERPT:
The kiss wasn’t just any kiss. No, it was a tricky little bastard, because it started out soft and gentle, but shifted gears in a matter of seconds. The moment her response went from surprise to surrender, the kiss turned hard and hungry, launching us into a frenzy of movement. Her arms were around my neck, my hands were moving all over her body, and somehow, in a span of about five seconds, she climbed up me like a tree, her legs wrapped tightly around my waist.

We spun and bumped into the counter. I reached behind my back with one hand to tighten the cross of her ankles. And then I had her sitting on the edge of the stovetop, my hands exploring the tops of her thighs. I pushed the ruffled skirt hem up and clasped on to her bare, silky skin. Her tongue dove to the back of my throat, sliding over mine like wet, slick velvet.

Holy mother fuck, I couldn’t breathe. I was drowning in this girl. She lifted her ass from the stovetop and bucked into me, meeting my dick with the apex of her thighs. My fingers grazed the dampness, and my erection throbbed at the thought of making her come right through her panties. Judging by how soaking wet she was, she was that ready.

“I’m burning up,” she moaned against my mouth, ripping at the buttons of my shirt.

“Oh, baby, me too.” I seated her ass back onto the counter and sent her a slow, precise rock of my hips.

“It’s so hot, God it’s hot.”

“I know. Let me help.” I made quick work of her shirt, gliding down the lace ruffles to get to the buttons. “This uniform drives me crazy.”

She giggled into my mouth. “You like?”

“Mmmmmm it’s so damn sexy.”

I dragged her shirt sleeves down to her wrists, wishing I could memorize the image—her leaning back on the counter like that, shirt wide open and tits thrust in my face—but something else glared at me from behind her, distracting me from the view. “You’re burning up!” I shouted.  “Whitney!”

She laughed and leaned in, biting my lip hard. “It’s all your fault, Montgomery.”

“No, shit! I mean your shirt, it’s literally burning up!”

“What?” she shrieked, her head snapping to look back over her shoulder, where her shirt was still attached to her wrists. Flames had started to dance across the material and she let out a scream, pushing herself off the worktop and scampering to her feet.

I’d turned on the stove to start cooking the chicken and had forgotten about it.

Frantically sliding her shirt over her hands and flinging it to the floor, she jumped and started stomping on it while I flicked the stove off and raced for a pot of water to douse the shi
rt with. A loud sizzle pooled at our feet, steam and smoke rising around our knees.

“Oh my God!” she coughed, her choke mixed with laughter. “Were you trying to kill me, Montgomery?”

“No!” I laughed with her, my shaky hands and racing heartbeat slowing just enough to register that I needed to check her for burns. “Come here, let me see you.” I pulled her around the smoky puddle and toward me, grabbing her hands and arms to assess the damage. I turned her around under the light and gently ran my fingers over her arms, back and chest, brushing over her hot, clammy skin and the white satin of her bra. Her heaving chest rose as she took a deep breath in, then fell as she worked to calm herself.

“I’m fine. It just caught my shirt sleeve.”

“Way to give me a heart attack, woman.”

“Me, give you a heart attack?”

“Well, yeah,” I shrugged in exasperation, “first you attack me like that and make me crazed with lust, and then you go and set yourself on fire!”

“What?” she screeched.

“You heard me!”

“You’re the one who kissed me and sat me on the damn stove!”

“Yeah, well, I wasn’t thinking properly. God, I’m bloody knackered, now. I need to sit down. Come here.” Our panting laughter began to simmer down as we took a seat on the sofa.

She slipped comfortably into my lap and I radiated satisfaction, realizing that if I had a mirror right now, I’d probably find a big, cheesy grin plastered across my face.

“You, Carter Montgomery, are a menace.” She smiled down at me, slowly wrapping her hand around the nape of my neck, giving a light tug.

“I think I owe you a meal. Take out?”

Review and Giveaway: Imperfect Love by Rebecca Talley

Imperfect Love Tour

Imperfect Love

SYNOPSIS:

Lauren Wilson is well on her way to her happily-ever-after. She has a career she loves, a husband she adores and a baby on the way, but a devastating diagnosis changes everything. The life she's built suddenly crumbles around her when her husband insists she choose—the baby or him. Returning to her small hometown to rebuild her shattered life, Lauren crosses paths with Ethan Campbell, the man who stole her teenage heart. The old attraction is still there, but Lauren won't admit it to anyone—least of all herself. Her only priority is providing a life for her child, and she can't afford to get it wrong. Ethan is confusing everything, including stirring up feelings she’s not prepared to face. Will she spend her life raising her baby alone or is the family she's always wanted finally within her reach?

MY THOUGHTS:

3 out of 5 stars
This is another book that I read during the five days without power. For that alone, I am thankful to Ms. Talley for her writing.

This book was a bit different from my normal swoony and flirty read, though it was definitely heavy on the emotions. And when I say heavy on the emotions, I am not exaggerating. It runs the entire spectrum...elation, disappointment, joy, fear, sadness, anger, devotion, betrayal, and love, love, and more love.

When her seemingly perfect life gets yanked out from under her feet, Lauren Wilson does what every good woman does -- sets her shoulders and decides that she is going to make it. And for that, I am a fan of this story. I can not stand a wimpy female main character. Nope. And Lauren makes me proud.

Faced with a future not at all what she had envisioned, she finds herself having to start over from scratch. Sort of. She may not have a job or her husband, but she has her family...and a friend from the past. And as the story progresses, she learns that maybe what she thought was imperfect was maybe her version of perfect after all.

I will say that I found the beginning of this book a bit...haphazard...at times. There were parts that could have been condensed and there were parts that could maybe make the reader feel a bit uncomfortable...yet as I think back, those moments begin to make a bit more sense. People and inner voices can be terribly judgey and maybe the discomfort I felt helped put me in Lauren's shoes. I can't exactly pinpoint it, but I do know that some of the unease I felt in the beginning now seems to make a bit more sense. Of course, now I'm probably making zero sense so take that as you will.

So, wrapping up one of the most random reviews ever posted on this blog, I will say that I enjoyed reading Imperfect Love and that it is a story that has been on my mind since I finished it. And I won't ever complain about that.

Publication date: March 20th 2014
Genres: Fantasy, Mythology, Young Adult

Synopsis:
To say that Sophie Bloom is at the top of her game with one only week until spring equinox and the final showdown with Zeus and Hades would be, well, lying. The Goddess of Spring feels more like the Goddess of Bzz Thanks For Playing than the savior of humanity. And could her relationships be any more messed up?

Good times.

Sophie is convinced that things can’t get any worse than crawling back to her mother Demeter and begging for help. But she’s about to find out how very wrong she is.

It’s a race against time for Sophie to implement the big battle strategy in the YA romantic comedy/Greek mythology finale My Life From Hell. Love meets comedy with a whole lot of sass in book three of this teen fantasy romance series. Save herself; save the world. Humanity may be screwed.

Excerpt:

Of all the Prince of Darkness’ powers, his best were his bone-melting super-kisses. Which is why, when my boyfriend Kai, (formally known as Kyrillos, son of Hades, Lord of the Underworld) pushed me up against my bedroom wall with a liplock of mind whacking proportions, I didn’t do much other than grip his shoulders, try to stay in an upright position, and willingly participate.

But as right as it felt, I also knew that it was very very wrong.

“We have to talk,” I gasped as I came up for air.

“Overrated,” Kai murmured, nudging his hips up against mine. Instead of talking, he opted for Plan B, which was pretty much a new and improved version. of Plan A. His hand clasped the back of my head to pull me closer.

If I pressed myself any harder against him, I’d be behind him.

Maybe that would be a good thing. Then I wouldn’t be distracted by things like the way his stupidly gorgeously-lashed eyes fixated on me, their normal espresso brown darkened and full of heat.

Kai shook his head, flinging a wayward lock of dark hair out of his eyes.  That just made me want to sink my hands into his hair. And like the most pathetic Pavlovian conditioning, one of my hands snaked up to twine my fingers into the curled ends just below his ears.

His breath caught at my caress.

Kai leaned forward and gave me the most fleeting, teasing kiss, his lips brushing mine. My stomach fluttered at hummingbird speed in that split second of connection.

Kissing, touching; our chemistry was off the scale.

Sadly, so was the weight of our baggage.

My Thoughts:
4 out of 5 stars
Dear Daisy Prescott...thank you.

Not long after I started this blog, I posted a review about her first novel, Geoducks Are For Lovers.  I loved so much about that story, the history of the characters, the setting, the fact that they were my age and that I still like them :)...but I don't believe I really hit on one of the perks of Geoducks, John Day.

And yes, he is a definite perk.

Except for in Ready to Fall, he is more than just a perk.

While Geoducks was about friends reconnecting and becoming more, Ready to Fall is the story of John and his temporary new neighbor, Diane.  Diane is starting over after a failed marriage and is renting Maggie's cabin on Whidbey Island for the off-season.  A transplant from New York City, she is hardly used to island life and her inexperience is a rude awakening -- for both herself and for John.  Literally.

I absolutely love the connection between John and Diane.  It was cute and sweet and refreshing to read that I find myself smiling as I write this review.  When I'm often asked about why I read so much YA, my standard answer is that I don't like reading about "adult problems" and that I like the tummy flutters and shy grins of new love.

For a "grown up book" this book can hold its own in the flutters department.

As Diane begins to find her true self amidst the rubble of her divorce, John begins to experience a bit of his own self-examination.  And what they both discover is absolutely flail-worthy.

This book is a solid follow-up to one of my favorite reads of the past year.  While I find many "follow ups" to read as a glorified retelling of the first book, I didn't feel like that at all while reading Ready to Fall.  Yes, the setting is the same and the community is small, but really, this book is truly John and Diane's story.  And what a story it is.

And again, to Daisy Prescott, I say thank you.

About Daisy Prescott:

Before writing funny contemporary romances about adults, I dreamed of being an author whiledoing a lot of other things. Antiques dealer, baker, blue ribbon pie-maker, fangirl, freelance writer, gardener, pet mom and wife are a few of the titles I’ve acquired along the way.

Born and raised in San Diego, my husband and I currently live in a real life Stars Hollow in the Boston suburbs with our dog, Hubbell, and an imaginary house goat who remains nameless.

Ready to Fall, my second novel, features John Day, the hot, sexy neighbor in my debut novel Geoducks Are for Lovers. Both can be read as stand-alones. I’m busy writing my next novel, which will not feature any bivalves.

Excerpt:

I pulled the bike off the road and we ran for the overhang of the store. Standing in the shadows next to the bagged ice freezer on the side of the building, I took off my helmet and brushed the rain from the back of my neck. Diane was dry on her front, but the back of her jacket appeared nearly soaked.

After she took off her helmet and set it on the ground, I gave her a stern look. “See what I mean about not talking about the weather? Around here it can rain when the sun’s out.”

Brushing the water off her jacket, she peered up at me with a sheepish smile. “Sorry. How long do you think we’ll have to wait it out?”

I left the dry safety of the overhang to stare up at the fast moving clouds swirling above us.

“Hard to say. Might turn back to being a mist. Might not.”

“Can we ride home in the rain?” she asked, leaning against the wall. Her wet jeans clung to her legs and I found myself staring while she lifted one leg to brace it on the wall.

“Sure. Do we want to? Not really.”

“What should we do?”

I lifted my eyes to her face. Her eyes sparkled same as they did back in the bar. I swept my thumb across my lower lip and then ran it across my chin.

Since our hike at Deception Pass, I couldn’t stop thinking about kissing her. The day she received a letter from the asshole wasn’t the right time. Normally, I didn’t give this much thought to making a move. If I wanted to kiss a woman, I did. As long as she gave me the right signals. Maybe that was part of the problem with Diane. I didn’t know her signals. We flirted, we teased. I caught her staring, but it never moved from thoughts to action. My hand was getting tired of all the time I spent thinking.

There was a time and place for action.

That time and place was now.

“Store’s closed. Nothing to do but stand here and watch the rain fall.” I moved closer to her along the wall, my shoulder brushing hers when I mirrored her posture. My hand dropped between us and brushed against her leg, but I faced the line of water dripping from the roof gutter.

“Nothing?” she asked, her voice more of a whisper.

“Can’t think of anything,” I whispered back while I turned to gaze down at her. “You?”

I could see everything in her eyes. I wasn’t the only one thinking about kissing. When I entwined our fingers, her breath hitched. I broke eye contact and stared down at her mouth. Her lips parted and her tongue peeked out to wet the bottom one.

“John …” Her words faded away when I leaned down.

**A light, sexy NA Contemporary Romance**

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18332287-playing-pretend

MY THOUGHTS:
3.5 out of 5 stars

Playing Pretend surprised me a bit.  Being without power for five days this week due to an ice storm, I had a bit of time on my hands and found myself turning on my Kindle for a reread.  It was sassy, flirty and a light story that I found to be entertaining and the perfect thing for me to read when my real life was literally dark and cold.

Told using alternating points of view, Playing Pretend tells the story of Charlotte and Mason.  A Governor's daughter and a graduate student.  Two people who have seemingly nothing in common other than a chance meeting when Charlotte was on a trip over Spring Break.  An unffy, chemistry-filled, six days in California where she could be who she wanted for the first time in her nineteen years.

You see, Charlotte's mom is an absolute witch.  I pretty much hate her.  Hard core.  And I found myself pulling for Charlotte and Mason pretty much from the first page.  I do love a strong female character and while there were times when I wanted to smack Charlotte in the face, I enjoyed watching her growth.

And then there is Mason.  Yes, please.  **grabby hands**  While he does have his flaws, the way he falls for Charlotte and what he is willing to do just to be with her did register a bit on my swoon scale.

If you are looking for a quick, easy and enjoyable read, I do recommend Playing Pretend by Juliana Haygert.

Guest Post: My travel bucket list

I like to travel, a lot. But in the four years since I’ve had a child, my travel has been curtailed, somewhat.  Ok, a lot. A trip to France with an eight month old in tow was less vacation, more adventure.

So at the end of last year, I made a travel bucket list. For some reason, my husband and I never go to
the places we really want. Instead we compromise on odd locations. And while those compromises have made for some amazing trips, we’re still not getting to where we want to go. But once I’ve written it down, I’ll have to go, right? You’ll hold me to it, won’t you?

10. Easter Island. I hear the plane ride is really long, and the tour, really short. But I still want to do it. I need to see those giant statues for myself.

9. The Great Wall of China. I have to see something astronauts can see from space.

8. Bangkok, Thailand. I have no particular reason for wanting to go to Thailand, but I’ve always had a strong desire to visit.

7. Greek Islands. My husband has always wanted to bicycle through the Greek Isles. While I think we
may be a little old for it, I’d love to see the water, the beaches, and eat the food, anyway—bicycle or no bicycle.

6. Egypt, the Pyramids. I may not be able to see all the wonders of the world, but I have to see this in
person.

5. Reykjavik, Iceland. For some reason, I’m usually in line for the bathroom on international flights when flying over Iceland, and see it from the tiny airplane window while bouncing on the balls of my feet. So I have to see it for myself—in the summer.

4. Switzerland. It’s neutral. There’s gotta be something to that.

3. Hong Kong. I always meant to visit before the handover, but never made it there. The food is
supposed to be amazing. And as a bonus, English is spoken.

2. Belgium. Belgian beer and fries. Need I say more.

1. Australia and New Zealand. I’ve always wanted to go to the other side of the earth. The animals are vastly different. The geography looks spectacular. And it’s summer there now.

Synopsis:

Jenna Oliver doesn’t have time to get involved with one boy, let alone two.

All Jenna wants is to escape her evaporating small town and her alcoholic mother. She's determined she'll go to college and find a life that is wholly hers—one that isn't tainted by her family's past. But when the McAlister twins move to town and Jenna gets involved with both of them, she learns the life she planned may not be the one she gets.

Ian McAlister doesn't want to start over; he wants to remember.

Ian can’t recall a single thing from the last three months—and he seems to be losing more memories every day. His family knows the truth, but no one will tell him what really happened before he lost his memory. When he meets Jenna, Ian believes that he can be normal again because she makes not remembering something he can handle.

The secret Ian can’t remember is the one Luke McAlister can’t forget.

Luke has always lived in the shadow of his twin brother until Jenna stumbles into his life. She sees past who he’s supposed to be, and her kiss brings back the spark that life stole. Even though Luke feels like his brother deserves her more, Luke can’t resist Jenna—which is the trigger that makes Ian's memory return.

Jenna, Ian, & Luke are about to learn there are only so many secrets you can keep before the truth comes to reclaim you.

MY THOUGHTS:
4 out of 5 stars

Several weeks ago, I was lucky enough to win this book through a contest hosted by Liza Wiemer on her blog, WhoRuBlog.  Based on her own reviews, I found myself drawn to the premise of Reclaimed and out of all the books she offered, this book was the one that I said I wanted.

I chose right.

Now, while I didn't grow up with the same family dynamic as Jenna, I could appreciate her absolute desire to escape the small town where she grew up.  I made that promise to myself early on and as I read her thoughts and her plans for her life, I felt like I was able to completely relate to where she was coming from.

Even with the obstacles thrown her way, Jenna is on the right path...all she has to do is survive the summer and her senior year in High School.  That's it.  Easy peasy, right?

You'd think so.

When the McAlister family comes to town, lets just say that Jenna's straightforward path gets a little bit murky.

First, there is Ian.  Sweet, swoony, smart Ian.  He plays football, makes good grades, and even with the fact that he can't remember some of his past, there is something about him that draws Jenna in.  Falling for Ian is something that looks like it is going to happen.

Until Jenna finds out about Luke.

Like so many of us, Jenna finds herself intrigued by the bad boy.  After spending so much of her life being good, it is hard for her to resist the allure, the mystery, the unf...even as she constantly reminds herself that she needs to stay away.

And she tries, she really does.

Until she can't.

I read lots of books, so it isn't often that I am completely blindsided by a twist or a turn in the plot.  Yeah...I was completely not expecting what happened to happen.  I mean, I was sitting in my car reading in the carpool line when THE MOMENT was revealed and I felt a little like this:

 and then like this:
   and then this:

Now, I don't need to remind you of my no-spoiler policy, so don't even ask.  But I completely mean it when I say that I was blindsided.  And I LOVED IT!

Please, I need somebody to go get this book and read it and then come find me so we can talk about it.  Because for real, I need to talk about it with somebody that has read it.

The way the author describes the town, the emotions, the relationships in Reclaimed...GAH, she can tell a story.  And she did it all without giving anything away.  Did I mention that I was blindsided?  I'm gonna need Sarah Guillory to go write more things so I can read them all.

Go get this book today and read it and then come tell me what you think.  I'll be waiting.
